Washington Nationals vs. Atlanta Braves Prediction

Washington Nationals (33-43) @ Atlanta Braves (44-32)

Date: Monday June 28th, 2010

Time: 7:10 pm EST

Preview: The Washington Nationals will look to gain some ground in the National League East when they play divisional leading Atlanta on Monday. The Nationals are in last place in the division, 11 games behind coming into the series. Washington has lost eight of their last ten games overall, including four straight after being swept by the Baltimore Orioles over the weekend. The Nationals will send their star rookie pitcher Stephen Strasburg to the mound in this one. Strasburg is 2-1 on the season, with an earned run average of 1.78. The 21 year old from San Diego took a loss in his last outing, throwing six innings, allowing nine hits and just 1 run, as the Royals downed the Nationals 2-1. On the season Strasburg has struck out 41 batters in 25 innings.

Throwing for the Braves will be their 34 year old ace Tim Hudson. Hudson is 7-3 with a 2.54 earned run average. In his career, Hudson is 155-81 as a starting pitcher. The Braves hold a slim ½ game lead over the Mets at the top of the National League East division. Troy Glaus has had a resurging season for the Braves, leading the team with 14 homeruns and 56 runs batted in.

Our prediction for this game: Strasburg continues to impress as a major league baseball starter, and picks up his third win of the season. Washington wins 6-2.
