When next week’s Official World Golf Rankings are released, Tiger Woods will fall at least one spot to No. 6 and could be as low as No. 9 in the final rankings before The Masters. England’s Paul Casey will definitely pass Tiger in the next rankings, even though neither golfer is playing this week. Europeans Lee Westwood, Martin Kaymer, Luke Donald and Graeme McDowell have already passed Tiger in the rankings.

Three Americans also have a chance to move past Tiger in the next rankings based on their performance in this weekend’s Shell Houston Open. Phil Mickelson need to finish 36th or better this week to finally move past Tiger in the rankings, something Phil hasn’t been able to do since before the 1997 Masters. Matt Kuchar and Steve Stricker could also pass Tiger by finishing first or second this weekend.

After the first round in Houston, Phil is at T33 on the leaderboard, while Kuchar is T69 and Stricker is T5.

In other rankings news, Lee Westwood could retake the No. 1 spot from Martin Kaymer with a top-two finish in Houston. Westwood, playing in the same threesome as Mickelson for the first two days, is T9 after the first round.
