Team USA Gets Past France with Ease

Just as they did a couple of years ago, Coach K’s Team USA seems to be beating the competition with relative ease as they have beaten both China (98-51) and France (86-55) in consecutive games in convincing fashion.

Even though both of these scrimmage victories were impressive, neither China or France had their best players on the floor as Yao Ming (Houston Rockets) is still nursing a foot injury and Tony Parker (San Antonio Spurs) sat courtside with his wife at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Along playing without their best player in Parker, the French national team also had to take on Team USA without Ronny Turiaf (New York Knicks) and Joakim Noah (Chicago Bulls), but did have Boris Diaw (Charlotte Bobcats) ready to go as he scored 15 points in the loss and Nicolas Batum (Portland Trailblazers) who added 11.

As for Team USA, Rudy Gay led the way with 19 points with Chauncey Billups not far behind with 17. Kevin Durant also added 14 points and eight rebounds.

Before the Americans took on the French this past Sunday, Coach K cut his roster down to 13 by sending both Jeff Green (Oklahoma City Thunder) and JaVale McGee (Washington Wizards) home. This is the last time Coach K will make some cuts to his Team USA roster as his final roster will be announced when the team makes the trip to Europe.

At this point in time, these games have been nothing more than a glorified feeling out process in which Coach K and company can take a look at their new players and figure out what rosters work best moving forward. Despite these games having no bearing on how well Team USA will do in the upcoming 2010 FIBA men’s basketball championship which is set to begin on August 28th in Istanbul, Turkey with Kevin Durant and company going up against Croatia, these games are a good indication on what players will step it up overseas.
