For the first time ever, the city of Dallas will host the 2011 Super Bowl. The “Big D” is the third largest city in Texas, and the ninth largest in the United States. The Dallas and surrounding metropolitan areas have a population of over 6.5 million people. The city was founded in 1841, and holds one of the busiest airports in the world – Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport.
Dallas has pretty mild weather most of the year, with February coming in with average highs around 60 degrees. Snowfall is hardly ever an issue in the city of Dallas, during February. On average, they receive just 1.2 inches of snow in the month. If snow does fall, the game will go on with no issues due to the indoor facility the Super Bowl will be played in.
The city was in the headlines during the month of October, when the baseball team – the Texas Rangers hosted the World Series. Every year, the city hosts the Red River Rivalry between two of the top college football programs in the country – Oklahoma and Texas. Dallas is home to five professional sports franchises. The only other team besides the Cowboys to win a title is the Dallas Stars, who won the Stanley Cup in 1999.
The Super Bowl XLV in February of 2011 is expected to bring millions of people the city and billions of dollars. The Stadium will bring in a record crowd of over 100,000 fans, and another 50,000 will enter the city for the event, but not be a paid attendee.
