With the NFL’s 12 playoff teams set and the first playoff games kicking off this Saturday, we look at each teams updated odds of reaching and winning Super Bowl XLV. The Patriots and Falcons have home-field advantage and remain the top seeds in their respective conferences, but there are plenty of serious contenders among the other 10 playoff teams.
1. New England Patriots 4/5 to win the AFC 2/1 to win Super Bowl
The Patriots just need to win two home playoff games to reach the Super Bowl. New England has won 24 straight at home during the regular season, but lost their last home playoff game to the Ravens a year ago.
2. Atlanta Falcons 9/5 to win NFC 11/2 to win Super Bowl
Have home-field advantage in the NFC and were 7-1 at home this year, but had regular season losses to the Saints and Eagles.
3. Pittsburgh Steelers 3/1, 11/2
The No. 2 seed in the AFC was 1-3 against AFC playoff teams this season.
4. New Orleans Saints 4/1, 10/1
Will probably need to win three road playoff games to return to the Super Bowl, although they are heavy favorites to win this weekend in Seattle, who they beat 34-19 at home in Week 11. The Saints also handed the Falcons their only home loss of the year in Week 16.
5. Philadelphia Eagles 5/1, 11/1
Face a tough first test this weekend against the Packers, and if they win they would have to go to Chicago, where they lost to the Bears in Week 12. The Eagles did beat the Falcons 31-17 at home in Week 6, even with Michael Vick was out with an injury.
6. Chicago Bears 7/2, 12/1
Beat the Packers and Eagles at home this year, but lost to the Seahawks.
7. Green Bay Packers 11/2, 12/1
Beat the Kevin Kolb Eagles in Philly in Week 1, and will need to beat the Michael Eagles in Philly just to make it a second-round date with the Falcons. Green Bay lost 20-17 in Atlanta in Week 12. The Packers have won two-straight must-win games to end the regular season, something no other NFC team can say.
8. Baltimore Ravens 7/1, 12/1
Will likely need to win three road games to get to the Super Bowl, but played the Steelers and Patriots tough on the road earlier this season. The Ravens beat the Roethlisberger-less Steelers in Week 4 by a field goal, then lost at the Patriots by three in Week 6.
9. Indianapolis Colts 7/1, 14/1
Ended the season with four straight wins to make the playoffs. They lost to the Patriots by three in Week 11, but will need to beat the Jets at home and then the Steelers in Pittsburgh just to get to an AFC Championship Game in New England.
10. New York Jets 11/1, 20/1
Last season, the Jets won two road playoff games to make a surprise run to the AFC Championship Game. This year, they’ll need three road playoff victories to get further. The Jets beat the Steelers on the road in Wekek 15, but got blown out in New England in Week 13.
11. Kansas City Chiefs 10/1, 35/1
The biggest surprise of the AFC playoff teams, the Chiefs played 14 of their 16 regular season games against teams that didn’t make the playoffs. The Chiefs won their first seven home games before losing last week’s game to the Raiders with a division title already secure. If home-field advantage can carry the Chiefs past the Ravens this weekend, they’ll have to win on the road, where they were only 3-5 this season.
12. Seattle Seahawks 50/1, 100/1
The first playoff team with a losing record in NFL history is certainly a dark horse. They were 1-2 against the other NFC playoff teams this season. Even if they can upset the Saints at home this weekend, they’ll have to win on the road where they were just 2-6 this season. And they might have to again start Charlie Whitehurst, who was adequate in his second career NFL start in Seattle’s division-clinching win over the Rams.
