San Francisco Giants vs. Atlanta Braves Picks and Preview

San Francisco Giants (62-45) @ Atlanta Braves (60-46)

Date: Thursday August 5th, 2010

Time: 7:10 pm EST

Preview: The San Francisco Giants and Atlanta Braves will start a huge four game series on Thursday at Turner Field. As of Wednesday, both teams came into play as playoff teams, if the season ended today. The Giants are in second place in the National League West; trailing San Diego by a single game, but are currently the NL wildcard leaders. The Giants have enjoyed pitching that has ranked as the second best in all of baseball, with a 3.38 earned run average. Matt Cain leads the team in ERA with a 2.98, while Tim Lincecum has won 11 games, striking out 152 batters. The Giants are batting .264 as a team, which ranks 10th in baseball. San Francisco’s offensive leader has been Aubrey Huff, who leads in batting average (.310), homeruns (20)) and runs batted in (65).

For Atlanta, their two game lead doesn’t feel real safe, with Philadelphia’s tendency to get hot, quick. The Braves are 14 games over .500, but coming off a 3-2 loss to the Mets on Tuesday. Atlanta is led by Martin Prado offensively, but he continues to miss action with a slight injury. Prado is batting .315 for Atlanta. The pitching match-up for this game is Giants ace Tim Lincecum, against Atlanta fireballer Jair Jurrjens. Lincecum is 11-4, 3.10, while Jurrjens, who has been hampered with injuries this season is 3-4 on the season.

My MLB Betting Pick: Atlanta’s offense gets to Lincecum. Braves win 7-5.
