With a victory in Washington on Monday night, the Philadelphia Phillies clinched their fourth consecutive National League East division championship, and their second straight without needing a Mets collapse. Overrated pitcher Roy “Billie” Halladay pitched an unnecessary shutout as the Phillies cruised to an 8-0 victory over the last-place Nationals.

With the victory, the Phillies also clinched home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. Halladay, who had never pitched in a postseason game in all his much-ballyhooed career in Toronto, is very much looking forward to his first taste of playoff baseball. “This is the coolest thing I’ve been a part of,” said the easily impressed Halladay.

The Phillies will have the National League’s best record for the first time since 1977 — that team lost the NLCS to the Dodgers, three games to one. While Philadelphia has nothing to play for in the regular season’s final six days, they will have to wait to know who’ll they’ll play in the NLDS. Right now the Reds, Cardinals, Giants, Padres and Rockies are all still possibilities.

Here’s an updated look at the NL playoff picture with six days remaining:

Philadelphia Phillies (94-63) CLINCHED NL EAST AND HOME FIELD THROUGHOUT POSTSEASON

San Francisco Giants (88-68) 6 games left (6H): vs. ARZ, vs. SD

  • Magic Number To Clinch NL West, #2 Seed in NL and home-field advantage in NLDS: 6
  • Magic Number To Clinch Playoff Spot: 6

Cincinnati Reds (87-69) 6 games left (6H): vs. HOU, vs. MIL

  • Magic Number To Clinch NL Central: 1 (would have to lose last 6 games and have Cardinals win last 6 to need one-game playoff)

Atlanta Braves (88-69) 5 games left (5H): 2vs.FLA, 3vs.PHI

  • Magic Number To Clinch Playoffs: 5 (because the Giants and Padres play 3 games, the 2nd-place team in the NL West is guaranteed 70 losses)

San Diego Padres (87-69) 6 games left (3H/3A): vs. CUBS, @SF

  • Playoff Elimination Number: 6

Colorado Rockies (83-73) 7 games left (3H/4A): vs. LAD, @StL

  • Playoff Elimination Number: 2

Over in the American League, the top four teams all lost, so the Devil Rays and Twins got closer to clinching home-field advantage in the ALDS:

Tampa Bay Devil Rays (93-63) 6 games left (2H/4A) vs. BAL, @KC

  • Magic Number To Clinch Best Record in AL: 5 (hold tiebreaker w/ Twins)
  • Magic Number To Clinch AL East: 5 (hold tiebreaker w/ Yankees)
  • Magic Number To Clinch Playoffs: 1 (would have to lose last 6 games and have Red Sox lose last 6 games to need one-game playoff)

Minnesota Twins (92-64) 6 games left (4H/2A): @KC, vs. TOR

  • Magic Number To Clinch #2 seed in AL and home-field advantage in ALDS: 2

Texas Rangers (87-69) 6 games left (6H): 2 vs. SEA, 4 vs. LAA

New York Yankees (93-64) 5 games left (5A): 2@Tor, 3@Bos
