The following is from a letter by Tellurian Inc. CEO Kevin Florek posted on the home page of the 13th Annual McGovern Charity Golf Tournament:

It comes with great concern and sadness that I write to you today. On Friday, June 4, 2010, Tellurian held its 13th annual fund raising celebrity golf tournament near Wisconsin Dells. This year the event was named after Packer All Pro Clay Matthews. The event itself was a great success, thanks to all of you. The outing ended at 7:30 pm after which everyone involved in the event went their separate ways. Unfortunately, as you may have heard, later that night there was an alleged sexual assault by an unnamed Green Bay Packer who may have participated in the outing. The alleged incident happened at 4:17 am, approximately nine hours after the Clay Matthews Celebrity Golf Tournament concluded.  Mr. Matthews has been cleared of any wrongdoing by the Lake Delton police and no one from Tellurian was involved in any way.

I have been in contact with Mark Murphy, CEO of the Green Bay Packers, and Clay Matthews. Although neither were involved in this alleged incident, both have expressed their heartfelt apologies to Tellurian, the people we treat, and those who have supported us over the years.

As you are aware, this outing helps raise much needed funds for people who suffer from addiction, mental disease, homelessness and sexual abuse in the state of Wisconsin. It also helps eliminate the stigma surrounding these diseases.

In a world of email, facebook, twitter, and sport talk shows, stories like these can take on a life of their own. It is imperative that I set the record straight in an attempt to keep Tellurian’s good name in the community and more importantly, that it does not affect the close to eight thousand people that Tellurian services annually.  Be assured that in no way does Tellurian, the Green Bay Packers, nor I condone this type of behavior.

Tournament host/Packers linebacker Clay Matthews was less eloquent in a statement Sunday:

One person’s misjudgment really put a damper on it. Hopefully this doesn’t put a black eye on the tournament and the foundation, but I think for the most part I think it worked out this year, and next year, just be a little more careful. Hopefully we can learn from this and make correct decisions next time.

So Matthews is hosting a charity golf tournament for a foundation that helps people who have been sexual abused, but an alleged sexual assault is “one person’s misjudgement” and “next year, just be a little more careful” and it’s a learning experience?
