New York Jets Re-Sign Santonio Holmes

Last season the New York Jets were without a doubt one of the best all-around teams in the NFL as they were able to defy the odds once again and make it all the way to the AFC Championship game for the second straight season to face the Pittsburgh Steelers. Even though the Steelers ultimately got the best of the Jets and advanced to the Super Bowl, Rex Ryan and company proved that this team has no intentions of backing down as they are as advertised and should be perennial Super Bowl title contenders for quite some time.

One problem that the New York Jets would face in the offseason was free agency and which players would they be able to re-sign before next season. Unfortunately, the Jets don’t have the means to re-sign all their big-name players at skill positions, but they were able to get their best free agent in wide receiver and former Super Bowl MVP Santonio Holmes.

Even though there were some doubts about how well Santonio Holmes would do last season, the veteran wideout impressed everyone as he didn’t miss a beat with his new team and quickly become the number one option in the passing game for quarterback Mark Sanchez. With that being said, Holmes was the number one priority for the Jets this offseason as they knew the offense just wouldn’t be the same without him.

Fortunately, it didn’t take long for the New York Jets to strike up a new deal with their star wide receiver as Santonio Holmes agreed to sign a five-year deal worth $50 million dollars. Not only is this new contract lucrative to say the least, but Holmes will also have $24 million dollars of that contract guaranteed.

Needless to  say, the New York Jets have gotten their first order of business out of the way and now will be focusing on the defensive side of the football by trying to sign cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha.
