2011 NCAA Tournament: Arizona (5) vs. Texas (4)

West Region: Arizona Wildcats (5) vs. Texas Longhorns (4) Sun. March 20, 2011 6:10 p.m. EST

Coming into the 2011 NCAA Tournament, the Texas Longhorns (4) were considered to be one of the elite teams in the tournament and actually got some consideration for a top seed. With that being said, everyone knew that the West Region was going to be amongst the toughest in the 2011 NCAA Tournament with the defending champion Duke Blue Devils (1), San Diego State Aztecs (2) and the UConn Huskies (3) all in the same region.

Fortunately, despite being challenged by a very good Oakland Golden Grizzlies squad, the Texas Longhorns (4) were able to come out on top and advance to the third round of the 2011 NCAA Tournament. Now the Longhorns will take on yet another formidable opponent in the Arizona Wildcats (5).

2011 NCAA Tournament: Ohio State (1) vs. George Mason (8)

East Region: Ohio State Buckeyes (1) vs. George Mason Patriots (8) Sun. March 20, 2011 5:15 p.m. EST

The Ohio State Buckeyes (1) could quite possibly be the team to beat in this 2011 NCAA Tournament as they have arguably the best all around team of any other number one seed in the tournament. Yes, the defending NCAA champion Duke Blue Devils (1)  just destroyed their first opponent in the Hampton Pirates 87-45, but the Buckeyes did just as good defensively by holding the Roadrunners to just 47 points in their first win.

Obviously, from here on out the competition is just going to get better and better with every passing round all the way up to the National Championship, but the Ohio State Buckeyes might be tested early against the up and coming George Mason Patriots (8).

2011 NCAA Tournament: Michigan (8) vs. Duke (1)

West Region: Michigan Wolverines (8) vs. Duke Blue Devils (1) Sun. March 20, 2011 2:45 p.m. EST

In their first game of the 2011 NCAA Tournament, the defending NCAA champion Duke Blue Devils (1) lived up to their number one seed billing by absolutely dominating the Hampton Pirates (16) 87-45. Obviously, no one expected the Pirates to be the first team in NCAA college basketball history to knock off a number one seed, but the margin of victory was a surprise as the Blue Devils look pumped up and motivated to make a run at a second consecutive NCAA title.

As it usually does with every round in the NCAA Tournament, the Duke Blue Devils (1) next opponent will be much tougher and could quite possibly give them a run for their money. Even though the Michigan Wolverines (8) aren’t exactly considered to be one of the better teams in the 2011 NCAA Tournament, the Wolverines were able to pull off an impressive win over Bruce Pearl’s Tennessee Volunteers in the second round, 75-45.

The Washington Huskies (7) came into the 2011 NCAA Tournament with high hopes of being able to do some damage in the East Region as they were coming off an impressive win that crowned them the Pac-10 champions. Even though many people haven’t expected much from the Huskies, they did a fairly good job of knocking out the Georgia Bulldogs in the second round with a score of 68-65.

Now Washington Huskies (7) will face what could be their toughest challenge in the 2011 NCAA Tournament as they are set to face off against Roy Williams’ North Carolina Tar Heels (2) for an opportunity to advance to the Sweet Sixteen in Newark, New Jersey.
