Marcus Thigpen Breaks NFL Record In Week 7

Marcus Thigpen who is 24 years old has already been bounced around the professional ranks, but it looks like he may have found his new home with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. Thigpen started his football playing days at Mumford High School in Detroit and was then offered a scholarship by the Indiana Hoosiers.

Thigpen played with the Hoosiers from 2004-2008 and ended his college football career with 1621 rushing yards and 9 rushing touchdowns. Marcus also helped the Hoosiers on special teams and finished his career with 2009 yards and 3 TD’s on 81 returns, which is good for a 24.8 average.

Since graduating from Indiana, Thigpen has spent time with the Philadelphia Eagles and Denver Broncos, but he was waived each time before making the roster. He was then given a shot with the Roughriders, but he was cut from the team right at the end of training camp this season, which is when Hamilton picked him up and added him on their active roster.

The record that Thigpen has broken already in his young CFL career is scoring a TD 5 different ways. Nobody in the CFL has ever been able to score a TD 5 different ways in a single season and Thigpen has managed to do so in a mere 7 games. Below is a list of the TD’s Thigpen has scored already this season.

  • Week 1 vs. Blue Bombers – 93 Yard Kick-Off Return for a TD
  • Week 1 vs. Blue Bombers – 119 Yard Missed Field Goal Return for a TD
  • Week 2 vs. Stampeders – 93 Yard Punt Return for a TD
  • Week 2 vs. Stampeders – 33 Yard Reception for a TD
  • Week 7 vs. Blue Bombers – 5 Yard Rush for a TD

Thigpen has been one of the lone bright spots on Hamilton this season and it’s great to see him find a home. He’s been bounced around enough, but he’s finally been given his chance to display his talent on the field.
