Devil Rays Hand Rangers First Series Loss of Year; Hamilton Hurt

The Tampa Bay Devils Rays beat the Texas Rangers 5-2 on Sunday night, becoming the first team to win a series this season against the defending American League champs by winning two of three games at Texas this weekend. The win also keeps the Devil Rays in a tie for first place in the AL East, and was Devil Rays ace David Price’s first career win against the Rangers.

Price was pleased to get that notch in his belt. “Personally, for myself, I never beat those guys,” explained the Devil Rays ace, who tied a franchise record for April wins with four. “First and foremost that feels great. I’m pumped that we won. I can turn that page now.”

The Devil Rays got all the scoring they would need with a three-run rally in the second inning sparked by a Ben Zobrist triple. The next inning Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton left the game with an injury which manager Ron Washington described as not that serious. “It’s no big deal,” Washington said.”If he feels better [before Monday’s game at Toronto], he’ll be out there. If not, we’ll give him another day.”

The Devil Rays will be back at historic Tropicana Field on Monday to begin a seven-game homestand against the and Seattle Mariners and Oakland Athletics.
