After a terrible season under John Fox; the Carolina Panthers were hoping for some positive waves for their team heading into the 2011 season. The tides turned the other way on Thursday as they found out Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck was going to return for his senior season. Carolina had already discussed taking Luck as the first pick in the draft.

The Panthers get the first pick after finishing the season with a 2-14 record. The next worst record was 4-12, shared by three teams. The Panthers had tons of offensive problems, which started early when they lost running back DeAngelo Williams for the remainder of the season. Jimmy Clausen was the quarterback for a majority of the season for Carolina and struggled to find his stride.

Luck was the runner-up to Cam Newton for the 2010 Heisman. In his career, Luck was thrown for over 5,900 yards and 45 touchdowns, to just 12 interceptions. He has also rushed for over 800 yards and 5 touchdowns. Luck’s father Oliver is the current athletic director at West Virginia. Luck also cited that he was returning no matter what the decision by his current head football coach Jim Harbaugh was.
