Alexander Ovechkin’s first four-point game of the season helped the Washington Capitals to an important road win over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Friday. With the win, the Capitals (28-15-10) snapped a three-game losing streak and moved within three points of the Lightning (32-16-5) for the Southeast Division lead. Tampa also saw its six-game winning streak come to an end.

Ovechkin scored his 20th goal of the season and added three assists. His goal came during a second period power play to give the Caps a 3-1 advantage, and was just his third power play tally of the campaign. Tampa’s Brett Clark responded with a power play goal in the final minute of the second period to cut the lead to 3-2.

Capitals head coach Bruce Boudreau was especially proud of how his team responded to allowing that goal late in the second. “Usually when a team scores that second goal that goal at the end of the second period in the last minute they have a ton of energy and I thought we took it away from them early in the third and I thought we played pretty solid,” said Boudreau.

In the other locker room, Lightning coach Guy Boucher said he was more than disappinted. “There was no urgency in our game,” he said. “It’s a lack of respect for an opponent.”
