Atlanta Braves vs. Washington Nationals Picks and Preview

Atlanta Braves (57-41) @ Washington Nationals (42-57)

Date: Tuesday July 27th, 2010

Time: 7:05 pm EST

Preview: The leaders in the National League East will take on the young phenom Stephen Strasburg on Tuesday evening. Atlanta comes into the series five games ahead of the Philadelphia Phillies for the top spot in the division. Atlanta has struggled a bit on the road though, winning just 23 of 51 games. The Braves offense has seen solid numbers from veteran Troy Glaus, as he leads the team with 14 homeruns and 61 runs batted in. Martin Prado is the leading hitter, batting .319 and 71 runs scored. The Braves are hitting .262 as a team, ranking them 11th in all of baseball. Going against Strasburg will be youngster Tommy Hanson. The 23 year old from Tulsa is 8-6 with a 4.12 earned run average. In his 20 starts in 2010, Hanson has struck out 114 batters, while walking just 37. His last win came on July 3rd against Florida. Strasburg is 5-2 with a 2.32 earned run average on the season. The youngster from San Diego has won games in his last three starts, striking out 22 in those three games. The last time Strasburg faced the Braves, he went 6.1 innings, allowing 6 hits and 3 earned runs in a loss.

Washington is in last place in the National League East, trailing the Braves by 15.5 games. The Nationals are led offensively by Ryan Zimmerman and his .295 batting average, along with Adam Dunn’s 23 homeruns and 63 runs batted in.

My Betting Picks: Strasburg slows down the Atlanta offense. Nationals win 5-2.
