With the NFL regular season fast approaching, we at SportsUntapped are taking our crystal balls out of storage and examining each team’s full 16-game schedule to prognosticate how the 2011 season will play out. We’ll look at all 32 teams and reveal each one’s final record. Next up: the New York Jets, who will be trying to break through after losing in the AFC Championship Game the past two seasons.

New York Jets

Last year’s record: 11-5.

Vegas Over/Under on 2011 Regular Season Wins: 10.

First four games:
Sept. 11 Dallas, 8:20 p.m.
Sept. 18 Jacksonville, 1 p.m.
Sept. 25 at Oakland, 4:05 p.m.
Oct. 2 at Baltimore, 8:20 p.m.

There should be plenty of emotion for the opener on the 10th anniversary of 9/11 against the Cowboys, and again for the Week 4 night game against coach Rex Ryan’s old friends in Baltimore. If the Jets can win at least one of those, they should have no problems getting off to a 3-1 start.

Second four games:
Oct. 9 at New England, 4:15 p.m.
Oct. 17 Miami, 8:30 p.m.
Oct. 23 San Diego, 1 p.m.
Oct. 30 BYE
Nov. 6 at Buffalo, 1 p.m.

Getting the Patriots right after the Ravens is pretty rough, but the only other tough test before midseason is hosting the Chargers. I see the Jets at 6-2 by the halfway point of the season.

First four games of the second half:

Nov. 13 New England, 8:20 p.m.-x
Nov. 17 at Denver, 8:20 p.m.
Nov. 27 Buffalo, 1 p.m.
Dec. 4 at Washington, 1 p.m.

Only the Patriots stick out here, so it looks like another three wins should get the Jets to 9-3.

Last four games:

Dec. 11 Kansas City, 1 p.m.
Dec. 18 at Philadelphia, 4:15 p.m.
Dec. 24 Giants, 1 p.m.
Jan. 1 at Miami, 1 p.m.

The Jets should get at least one win against the NFC East teams, and should beat the Chiefs and Dolphins to finish 12-4.
