With the NFL regular season fast approaching, we at SportsUntapped are taking our crystal balls out of storage and examining each team’s full 16-game schedule to prognosticate how the 2011 season will play out. We’ll look at all 32 teams and reveal each one’s final record. Next up: Eli Manning and the New York Giants, who will be trying to return to the postseason after missing out the past two seasons.

New York Giants

Last year’s record: 10-6.

Vegas Over/Under on 2011 Regular Season Wins: 9.5.

First four games:
Sept. 11 at Washington, 4:15 p.m.
Sept. 19 St. Louis, 8:30 p.m.
Sept. 25 at Philadelphia, 1 p.m.
Oct. 2 at Arizona, 4:05 p.m.

If the Giants don’t stumble in their nationally televised opener against the new and improved Donovan McNabb-less Redskins, they should manage a 3-1 start.

Second four games:
Oct. 9 Seattle, 1 p.m.
Oct. 16 Buffalo, 1 p.m.
Oct. 23 BYE
Oct. 30 Miami, 1 p.m.
Nov. 6 at New England, 4:15 p.m.

Fairly easy home games and a bye should get three more wins for the Giants who usually start well, so I expect a 6-2 midseason mark. But don’t expect Eli to back up his words about being in the same class as Tom Brady of the Patriots.

First four games of the second half:
Nov. 13 at San Francisco, 4:15 p.m.
Nov. 20 Philadelphia, 8:20 p.m.-x
Nov. 28 at New Orleans, 8:30 p.m.
Dec. 4 Green Bay, 4:15 p.m.

And then things get tough, and the Giants will have to be pretty lucky to get two wins out of this stretch. One is more likely, so let’s say 7-5 after 12 games.

Last four games:
Dec. 11 at Dallas, 8:20 p.m.-x
Dec. 18 Washington, 1 p.m.
Dec. 24 at N.Y. Jets, 1 p.m.
Jan. 1 Dallas, 1 p.m.

The Giants will probably need to win out to have a chance to win the NFC East, but I don’t see that happening. Two of four is more realistic for a 9-7 record.
