With the NFL regular season fast approaching, we at SportsUntapped are taking our crystal balls out of storage and examining each team’s full 16-game schedule to prognosticate how the 2011 season will play out. We’ll look at all 32 teams and reveal each one’s final record. Next up: 34-year-old Donovan McNabb and the post-Favre Minnesota Vikings.

Minnesota Vikings

Last year’s record: 6-10.

Vegas Over/Under on 2011 Regular Season Wins: 7.

First four games:
Sept. 11 at San Diego, 4:15 p.m.
Sept. 18 Tampa Bay, 1 p.m.
Sept. 25 Detroit, 1 p.m.
Oct. 2 at Kansas City, 1 p.m.

The Chargers are always slow starters, so that might give the Vikings a chance in Week 1, and home-field advantage should help the next two weeks. Still, it’s hard to see the Vikings doing much better than 2-2 after four games.

Second four games:
Oct. 9 Arizona, 1 p.m.
Oct. 16 at Chicago, 8:20 p.m.
Oct. 23 Green Bay, 4:15 p.m.
Oct. 30 at Carolina, 1 p.m.

Can’t see the Vikings winning in Chicago or beating the Packers on turf, but they should be able to beat the Cardinals at home and the Panthers on the road to stay .500 halfway through the season.

First four games of the second half:
Nov. 6 BYE
Nov. 14 at Green Bay, 8:30 p.m.
Nov. 20 Oakland, 1 p.m.
Nov. 27 at Atlanta, 1 p.m.
Dec. 4 Denver, 4:05 p.m.

Don’t think the bye will be enough to upset the Packers, but home wins over pretty weak AFC West teams gets the Vikings to 6-6 through 12 games.

Last four games:
Dec. 11 at Detroit, 1 p.m.
Dec. 18 New Orleans, 1 p.m.
Dec. 24 at Washington, 1 p.m.
Jan. 1 Chicago, 1 p.m.

McNabb should be highly motivated for his Christmas Eve return to Washington, but the game might not mean anything to either team by that point. Still, two more wins down the stretch seems likely and the Vikings could take a small step back towards respectability with an 8-8 record.
