With the NFL regular season fast approaching, we at SportsUntapped are taking our crystal balls out of storage and examining each team’s full 16-game schedule to prognosticate how the 2011 season will play out. We’ll look at all 32 teams and reveal each one’s final record. We conclude with Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers, who have nowhere to go but up.

Carolina Panthers

Last year’s record: 2-14.

Vegas Over/Under on 2011 Regular Season Wins: 5.5.

First four games:
Sept. 11 at Arizona, 4:15 p.m.
Sept. 18 Green Bay, 1 p.m.
Sept. 25 Jacksonville, 1 p.m.
Oct. 2 at Chicago, 1 p.m.

Cam Newton’s first NFL win could come as early as Sunday against Kevin Kolb and the Cardinals, but more likely in Week 3 against the Jaguars. Still, it’s hard to see Carolina off to a better start than 1-3.

Second four games:
Oct. 9 New Orleans, 1 p.m.
Oct. 16 at Atlanta, 1 p.m.
Oct. 23 Washington, 1 p.m.
Oct. 30 Minnesota, 1 p.m.

Probably no wins against divisional opponents, but the Panthers could get at least one more win against the Redskins or Donovan McNabb and the Vikings. Look for a 2-6 record at midseason.

First four games of the second half:
Nov. 6 BYE
Nov. 13 Tennessee, 1 p.m.
Nov. 20 at Detroit, 1 p.m.
Nov. 27 at Indianapolis, 1 p.m.
Dec. 4 at Tampa Bay, 1 p.m.

Good chance for a win out of the bye against the Titans, but road wins will be hard to come by. But at 3-9, the Panthers will have already improved on last season’s win total!

Last four games:
Dec. 11 Atlanta, 1 p.m.
Dec. 18 at Houston, 1 p.m.
Dec. 24 Tampa Bay, 1 p.m.
Jan. 1 at New Orleans, 1 p.m.

They could steal a win in Houston or against the Buccaneers to finish with twice as many wins as last season with a 4-12 mark.
