2011 NCAA Tournament: VCU (11) vs. Purdue (3)

Southwest Region: VCU Rams (11) vs. Purdue Boilermakers (3) Sun. March 20, 2011 7:10 p.m. EST

As there always is in the NCAA Tournament, there were plenty of surprises in the real first-round of the tournament with some big-name teams going home early. Even though we always ask a prize when does happen, this is March Madness and upsets are bound to occur.

There is no doubt that the biggest upset so far in the 2011 NCAA Tournamentwas when Rick Pitino’s Louisville Cardinals fell to the Morehead State Eagles. Despite this being the biggest surprise of the first set of games in the 2011 NCAA tournament, another big upset followed in the form of the Georgetown Hoyas falling to the VCU Rams (11).

The Georgetown Hoyas may have been highly ranked once again in the NCAA tournament, but they don’t really have the track record over the last few years to back up their play as they always struggle come March Madness. with that being said, the VCU Rams (11) were a surprise to come out on top, but not a total shock as they can play with the best of them,

Even though the VCU Rams (11) have already exceeded their expectations in the 2011 NCAA Tournament, they will have a tough task ahead of them in the form of the Purdue Boilermakers (3). As of right now, Purdue has the edge with a -9 point spread.
