Young, “Misled and Manipulated” By Rangers, Demands Trade

Michael Young is not happy with the Texas Rangers, the only team he’s played for in his 11-year Major League career. Young says it’s not being asked to switch positions from third base to designated hitter to accommodate newly signed Adrian Beltre, it’s that the team has not been up front with him and is spreading lies about him in the press.

“The suggestion that I’ve had a change of heart and asked for a trade is a manipulation of the truth,” Young told mlb.com on Monday night. “I want to be traded because I have been manipulated and misled in this process and I’m not going to take it anymore.”

Young wouldn’t go into details about exactly how the team had misled him, but a source said he’s pissed that the team was trying to trade him while publicly denying it was trying to trade him. Meanwhile the Rangers are still working the angle that Young is just unhappy with being asked to DH at the tender age of 34.

Young’s contract has a partial no-trade clause that allows him to designate eight teams he’d be willing to go to.  According to sources those teams are the Yankees, Twins, Astros, Cardinals, Padres, Dodgers, Rockies and Angels. So far, sources say the Rangers are only talking to those eight teams, and will only make a trade if they feel it helps them to do so.
