This season, the NFL is chock-full of really crappy football teams. At the top of that list of suckiness, the Cleveland Browns.
Cleveland has scored fewer than six points in five of its eight games this season. To put that into perspective, the New England Patriots (yes, I know they’re on a different plain completely) scored more points in one game (59) than the Browns have since the middle of September (58).
So whose fault is this debacle? Eric Mangini could quite possibly be the worst hiring in the history of the NFL — he doesn’t even know how to choose a proper general manager, as George Kokinis pretty much fell off the face of the football this weekend.
It’s one thing to read about the Browns in magazines like Sports Illustrated, ESPN, and Maxim. But even Rolling Stone has chimed in to talk smack, comparing Mangini to Augustus Gloop and Hurricane Andrew. Harsh.
But is he completely to blame? Tedy Bruschi doesn’t think so. The ESPN football analyst and one of Mangini’s former players with New England, came to his defense on NFL Live. He asked fans and the NFL for their patience, saying the coach knows his defense and how to put a game plan together… even though numbers fell drastically on the Pats’ defense when he took over.
Sure he’s a little over weight, but it’s not like he’s blowing the season to earn as many draft picks as possible for 2010, right? Besides, they did beat the Buffalo Bills… in what turned out to be one of the lamest football games ever played. I guess I could see how winning that was an accident.
