Who is this Lu guy? Where’s he from and what is he doing in the Wimbledon quarterfinals?
Lu’s full name is Lu Yen-Hsun, he comes from Taiwan and he is currently ranked 82 in the World, which makes him the highest ranked Asian player. He is born 1983 and was an accomplished junior player that beat strong players but has made a bit slower progress than the likes of Kohlschreiber, Soderling, and Ancic but he has been pretty steady in making better and better results in bigger tournaments and now his best result ever with a Wimbledon quarterfinal. It will be interesting to see how he does against Djokovic today. Usually these “slam wonders” only have one really big match in them and then it ends, but remember Baghdatis in Australian Open 2006? He scored upset after upset and was actually threatening Federer in the final. Can Lu do a Baghdatis? Who knows? But I think Djokovic will take it in four sets.
Djokovic is a part of the “fantastic four” of Murray, Federer and Nadal and the question today is if we will have them all in the semifinals. I think so, but the biggest threat to my eyes are Soderling who sure looks like he want to make it a fantastic five. The question is if he is tired after the five setter against Ferrer and of course in what shape Nadal is. But although I hold Nadal as the winner, it will not be as easy as in the Roland Garros final.
If Nadal wins Murray likely awaits him in the semis. Murray has had an easy draw so Tsonga will be the first real test. But with the crowd against him, the explosive Frenchman will not be as dangerous and Murray should be able to neutralize his power into a win. Hopefully Tsonga comes ready to fight and play!
Federer plays Berdych in a match that will produce a shitload of winners. The question is if Berdych can blast enough of them to keep Federer off balance. Key in this match is Federer’s serving. If he serves well he will be almost impossible to beat, if he serves badly Berdych has a good chance. So watch that first serve percentage of his if you bet on this game live.
Predictions:
Semi-finals
Federer vs Djokovic
Murray vs Nadal
Finals
Federer vs Nadal
Winner
Nadal
