This NBA offseason has been a nightmare for the Cleveland Cavaliers as they have taken a serious blow after learning that superstar and hometown boy LeBron James would be signing with the Miami Heat. Not only did the Cavs lose their meal ticket in King James, but they may have missed their window to win an NBA title in the near future.
Along with losing LeBron James to free agency, it appears they have also lost Shaquille O’Neal too as the four-time NBA champion will almost certainly sign with another team this summer. There is still a slight chance that Shaq will return to the Cleveland Cavaliers, but smart money says that he will sign with one of the following teams:
San Antonio Spurs, Boston Celtics, New York Knicks, Atlanta Hawks or Miami Heat
The frontrunner in this race to sign the veteran center is the Atlanta Hawks as they are looking for a big man of Shaq’s caliber and have talked about a sign-and-trade deal involving Marvin Williams.
Even though Atlanta seems to be Shaq’s next NBA destination, the Spurs, Celtics, Knicks and Heat aren’t out of the running just yet.
Reportedly, Shaq has said that he would love to go to San Antonio in an attempt to win at least one more NBA title before calling it quits, but joining the Heat or the Celtics would probably give him the better opportunity to win a fifth ring.
Recently, the Boston Celtics signed Jermaine O’Neal to replace retired veteran foward Rasheed Wallace and help the frontcourt which will be without center Kendrick Perkins for quite some time. With this signing, Shaq heading to Boston looks unlikely.
The New York Knicks also considered adding the Big Aristotle through a sign-and-trade scenario, but a deal is unlikely at this point.
As for the Miami Heat, it is no secret that they are looking to find veterans like Shaq to take a discount in order to contend for a NBA title next season, but even though the big fella would be a great addition to the Heat’s frontcourt, that doesn’t seem to be happening either.

I ask myself the same thing and yet you offer no clues…
The Heat have Big Z, what else do they need 😉
shaq, there are many people who would love to see you team up with tim duncan. If you look at the nba there aren’t that many teams with twin towers (sorry david, just trying to lure shaq to spurs) and pop preaches defense. how could you not consider playing with the likes of parker, ginobili, and rj? you would be a great fit and why not play in front of your high school fans? it would be rocking!!!!!!!!!!!!
