1. Indianapolis Colts (-5.5) The Colts have commandeered the #1 spot from the New Orleans Saints this week after keeping their perfect record in tact with a 35-31 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars last Thursday night. This Sunday, Peyton Manning and company will take on the Jets at home, where they’ll attempt their NFL-record 24th straight win.
2. New Orleans Saints (-14.5) Dropping their first game of the season to the Dallas Cowboys Saturday night dropped the Saints to the #2 spot this week. Next up? A bye week The Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
3. San Diego Chargers (+3) The Chargers just keep on winning games, with Sunday’s 27-24 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals counting as their ninth consecutive. I’m starting to detect a bit of a swagger in Philip Rivers’ walk. They’ll play the Tennessee Titans on Christmas Night, where they’ll face the challenge of taking ten in a row.
4. Philadelphia Eagles (-7) The Eagles are quietly winning important games late in the season, including Sunday’s 27-13 win over the San Francisco 49ers. This wasn’t exactly a tough win, but coupled with the combined losses of the Packers and Vikings along with a Giants win, the Eagles are making the NFC playoff race a little more interesting. Imagine how much damage they’ll do with Brian Westbrook back this week against the Denver Broncos.
5. Minnesota Vikings (-7) The Vikes suffered their third loss of the season Sunday at the hands of the Carolina Panthers by a score of 26-7, thus dropping out of the top three in our power rankings. Brett Favre dared to question head coach Brad Childress’ decision to take him out of the game when they were ahead 7-6, and the result was an embarrassing ass-whoopin’. They’re headed to the Windy City to take on the Bears this week, where they are at least favored by a touchdown.
6. Dallas Cowboys The Cowboys hushed their December critics, including me, Saturday night when they took down Drew Brees and the almighty undefeated Saints. They should be able to do work this Sunday against the Washington Redskins, who just got their asses handed to them by the New York Giants on Monday Night Football.
7. Cincinnati Bengals (-14) The Bengals hung in there against the Chargers this week, but failed to finish in their loss by just a field goal. Week 16′s game against the Kansas City Chiefs should be a breeze, especially considering the fact that KC is coming off a terrible beatdown by the Cleveland Browns.
8. Arizona Cardinals (-14) The Cardinals almost blew it against the Detroit Lions last Sunday, so this week’s game against the St. Louis Rams doesn’t look like as easy as it once did. Kurt Warner needs to right the ship and play like we know they can.
9. New England Patriots (-8) The Patriots might be winning, but they look just terrible. They’re gonna have to step it up a notch if they want to make it through the playoffs. After winning by a TD over the Buffalo Bills last week, they’re happy to be home to face the Jaguars on Sunday.
10. Green Bay Packers (-14) Cheesehead nation is calling for Mason Crosby’s head, as they well should. The pass defense was horrible, but the kicker screwed the pooch while the defensive coordinator completely forgot about the blitz. The Packers lost a heartbreaker last week, but their hopes are high for a much-needed win over the Seattle Seahawks Sunday afternoon.
