Unfortunately for the NFL’s Washington Redskins, the schedule maker keeps giving them Monday night home games. This isn’t a good sign for the club since they’re the worst in the league when it comes to Monday nights. Their 27-17 loss to the Seattle Seahawks last week saw their Monday night record fall to 2-13. And that’s just at home since they moved into FedEx Field.
The Redskins’ own a winning percentage of just 11.3 in those contests, which is the lowest in the league for any club that has played more than two Monday night games at home. The Buffalo Bills are winless, but have only played twice at home on Monday nights. Looking at the league’s history, no other team in the NFL has lost at least 10 home games on Monday evenings. In addition, the Cincinnati Bengals and Detroit Lions have both won more Monday night home games than Washington even though they’ve hosted just five Monday contests.
In total, 26 teams have more Monday home victories than Washington and just one of those clubs had played more Monday games at home. Fourteen of those 26 squads have played fewer than 10 home games on Mondays. Perhaps Washington is so bad at home on Mondays since they are among the league leaders in games that night with 15 of them over the years, which is more than just one other club. The only other team to have hosted more Monday showdowns is the Denver Broncos with 17 of them. The Miami Dolphins have also hosted 15.
While the Redskins have played 15 home games on Mondays, they’ve participated in just six on the road that night, which ranks them 22nd in the league in that department. This makes the Redskins 12th in the league overall in Monday outings with 21 games. The team lost 10 consecutive games at home on Mondays from 1998 to 2011 after winning their first time out at FedEx Field (formerly Jack Kent Cooke Stadium) back in 1997. They finally won another Monday home game in December of 2012 when they edged the New York Giants 17-16. However, they’ve now lost their last three to begin a new losing streak.
