Minnesota Vikings cornerback Chris Cook confirmed that he was taken into police custody on Saturday after arguing with his neighbor in Virginia. Cook says the neighbor, who lives two doors down, lied to police, telling them the defensive back pulled a gun during the argument. Cook admits he has a gun and a concealed weapons permit, but denies whipping it out.
The Vikings drafted Cook out of the University of Virginia in the second round of last year’s draft, but knee injuries limited him to just six games last year. One might expect that Cook would be full of no comments, but he actually has had a lot to say about the incident:
- “…nobody did anything. I told him I wasn’t going to fight him. He was just trying to provoke me. There was no gun involved at all.“
- “I wasn’t in any fight or nothing. It was just an argument. … You’re not going to scream at me like I’m your child so I screamed back at him. He thought that I called the police on his brother for some reason. Why would I do that?”
- “I tried not to let it ruin my weekend though.”
Last month, defensive end Everson Griffen, a Vikings third-round pick in 2010, was arrested twice in Los Angeles, once for assaulting a police officer and then again for drunk in public. Both players could face disciplinary action from the team and/or league if the lockout ever ends.
