The Philadelphia Eagles finally looked like the Dream Team they were hyped up to be before the season on Sunday night when they got their first home win of the season in a convincing 34-7 win over the Dallas Cowboys. The statement win by the Eagles puts both teams at 3-4 and in a three-way tie for second place in the NFC East, two games behind the New York Giants.
Ironically, new Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Rob Ryan, the son of legendary former Eagles coach Buddy Ryan and brother of vociferous Jets coach Rex Ryan, had said during training camp that the Eagles were over-hyped and promised the Cowboys would “beat their ass.” Rob didn’t back off his comments in the leadup to Sunday night’s game, saying “If they need my motivation to get ready to play us, then we’re going to kick their ass anyway.”
Instead it was the Cowboys who ended up getting their asses soundly kicked. The Eagles led 14-0 after the first quarter and 24-0 at the half. Superstar quarterback Michael Vick lit up Rob’s defense, completing 21 of 28 passes for 279 yards and two touchdowns, while also running seven times for another 50 yards. Eagles running back LeSean McCoy had a career-high 185 rushing yards.
“We started fast,” said Vick after the rout. “That was our mindset. We wanted to set the tempo. We didn’t want to let up.”
Tony Romo completed 18 of 35 passes for just 203 yards, 70 of which came on a fourth-quarter touchdown pass with his team down 34-0.
