Unbeaten UFC star Ryan Bader proved that his win over Keith Jardine back in February wasn’t a fluke it was actually a sign of things to come as he followed it up with another huge win at UFC 119 in Indianapolis, Indiana on Sept. 25. Bader took a unanimous decision over light heavyweight contender Antonio Rogerio Nogueira in their three-round fight at the Canseco Fieldhouse by scores of 30-27 on all three judge’s scorecards.

When the bell rang both men tried to establish their standup games, however, both of them fell short of the mark with their hard shots. Bader was able to take Nogueira down to the ground after two minutes and connected with some wicked shots to his head and it seemed like it might be all over then and there.

However, Nogueira managed to survive the onslaught and got back up on his feet with a minute to go in the round. He then nailed Bader with a solid right hand near the end of the round and rocked him.

Things slowed down quite a bit at the start of the second stanza until Bader livened things up by taking Nogueira down to the mat again close to the three minute mark. There wasn’t much more action in the round though until Nogueira was able to land a few shots on Bader, a former Arizona State All-American wrestler, in the last minute.

In the third round, Nogueira inadvertently poked Bader in the eye early on. Bader then unleashed and landed several hard shots on the Brazilian before taking him down yet again. Nogueira suffered a small cut over the left eye and was bleeding slightly. He then got back up on his feet and started to try and assert himself and take the action to Bader, but he couldn’t land his shots with any consistency and wasn’t able to hurt Bader. Nogueira was then taken down again after getting in Bader’s range and that more or less sealed the win for the unbeaten American.

With the win Bader improved his record to 13-0 and Nogueira fell to 19-4.

On the undercard, Matt Serra (17-7) and Chris Lytle (40-17-4) engaged in an entertaining three-round welterweight bout with Lytle taking a unanimous decision by scored of 30-27 across the board.

Former UFC lightweight champion Sean Sherk scored a split decision over Evan Dunham to hand him his first loss. The scores were 29-28, 29-28, and 28-29. Dunham fought an excellent fight and suffered a bad cut over his right eye. Many in the crowd booed the decision when it was announced.

Melvin Guillard (44-9-3, 1NC) beat Jeremy Stephens (18-6) by split decision in a lightweight fight by scores of 30-27, 29-28 and 28-29. Guillard has now won six out of his past seven bouts and three in a row.
