UFC Free Picks
Here are Sports Untapped’s free picks for UFC 131.
Donald Cerrone -400 vs. Vagner Rocha +300 I’d personally rather see this on the prelims and not on the PPV, but Donald “The Cowboy” Cerrone is a bit of a character and marketable. The line doesn’t lie here. Cerrone seems back to form after losses to his nemesis Ben Henderson. This is also Rocha’s first fight in the UFC, and Cerrone is just better in all areas. Take Cerrone -400.
Demian Maia -105 vs. Mark Munoz -125 I’m already calling this to be the fight of the night. I expect there will be standup exchanges, serious grappling and plenty of scrambles. I’ve been impressed with the progress from Maia since his defeat to Anderson Silva. his striking is much improved and his ground game is obviously second to none. I just don’t see Munoz knocking out Maia, and if it goes to the ground he loses there. Take Maia -105.
The Ultimate Fighter season 13 is coming to a close with the finale set for Saturday. Here are our free picks.
Clay Guida +145 vs. Anthony Pettis -175
Anthony Pettis is an excellent fighter and he is a crowd pleaser with his style. But on Saturday night he runs into the non-stop buzzsaw that is Clay Guida. Look for Guida to repeatedly take Pettis down and pound on him. It might take a decision, but Guida will win this. Take Guida +145
Ramsey Nijem -140 vs. Tony Ferguson +110
Ferguson made himself a villain of sorts with his drunken fit in the TUF house. Nijem went around taking his clothes off all the time. Which is worse? You make the call! And the call on this fight? Based on what we saw on the show I would say that Nijem will take this. Take Nijem -140
UFC 126 will be taking place at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas on Feb. 5th with the headlining bout being UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva taking on ‘The Phenom’ Vitor Belfort. Silva is looking to bounce back after a pretty poor performance last time out against Chael Sonnen and Belfort is hoping to become the first fighter to beat him in the octagon.
There are some other exciting bouts on the card, such as light heavyweight Forrest Griffin taking on Rich Franklin, bantamweight Miguel Torres meeting Antonio Banuelos, and light heavyweight Ryan Bader mixing it up with Jon “Bones” Jones. In addition, Japanese star Norifumi “Kid” Yamamoto will be making his UFC debut against Demetrious Johnson, formerly of WEC.
Anderson Silva-Curtiba, Brazil (27-4-1-0, 15 KOs) vs Vitor Belfort- (19-8, 13 KOs) Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
UFC 125 Resolution will be ready to roll on New Year’s Day as it takes place at the MGM Grand Darden Arena in Las Vegas. The main event will be between UFC Lightweight Champion Frank Edgar (13-1) of New Jersey vs unbeaten Gray Maynard (10-0) of Las Vegas. This is a rematch of their 2008 fight which Maynard won and is the only loss on Edgar’s record.
Edgar’s one of the best UFC fighters and he’s pretty smart to boot. He usually has a pretty good game plan and sticks to it. This could be a close fight though and it might not be the most exciting as Maynard’s hoping to remain unbeaten here and he’s a great wrestler and good boxer. Edgar should be able to control the fight’s pace though with his speed and conditioning and he’s going to have to stay away from the power of Maynard. If he can do that and then explode when he has the chance he should be able to hold onto his championship. We can expect some good UFC betting on these clashes and the best odds are right here.
