The card for UFC 130 has changed early and often, but now it’s set. Here are our free picks for UFC 130: Rampage vs. Hamill.
Rampage Jackson -350 vs. Matt Hamill +250
This is only Rampage’s 4th fight since the beginning of 2009. He often talks about retirement and moving full-time to “acting”. How much is his heart in this? Not fully, that’s for sure. Hamill still hungers for a title shot and is a full-time fighter. He also is tremendously strong and will repeatedly take down Rampage and ground and pound his way to a win. Take Hamill +250
Frank Mir -115 vs. Roy Nelson -115
Nelson vs. Mir is an extremely intriguing matchup. Mir is known as one of the best heavyweights when it comes to ground fighting. But even with all his girth, Nelson is also adept, having earned a BJJ black belt from Renzo Gracie. Mir needs to be careful of Nelson’s overhand right, but if he pushes the pace and it goes to a decision he should take it. When Nelson is forced to go more than one round he’s in trouble. That will happen here. Take Mir -115.
Brian Stann -150 vs. Jorge Santiago +120
Santiago is a veteran of many promotions, including Strikeforce, Sengoku and the UFC. This will be his first fight in the UFC in almost 5 years. He’ll have more than he can handle with Stann, who looks like he will eventually get a title shot. Stann is an enormous middleweight and he will be able to manhandle Santiago. I see him winning this handily. Take Stann -150
Rick Story +165 vs. Thiago Alves -210
Thiago Alves has a nemesis, and its name is wrestling. Jon Fitch and GSP proved that. Rick “The Horror” Story will prove it again. He’ll frustrate and out-hustle Alves, eventually breaking his will. It might not be pretty, but Story will win by decision.
Travis Browne -160 vs. Stefan Struve +130
Struve can be his own worst enemy at times as he loves to stand and trade when he should be hunting for takedowns and looking for subs. I think Struve has learned lessons from his losses to Roy Nelson and Junior Dos Santos. Trading with Browne would be a mistake, so expect a different approach from Struve in this fight. I think he takes Browne’s back and chokes him out. Take Struve +130.
Quick Picks:
- Miguel Torres over Demetrious Johnson
- Kendall Grove over Tim Boetsch
- Gleison Tibau over Rafaello Oliveira
- Michael McDonald over Chris Caraiso
