Tsk, Tsk Bobby McCray

Bobby McCray did something pretty stupid Tuesday morning: he was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated.

The New Orleans Saints defensive end was stopped by an officer for speeding around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday. After refusing to take a breathalyzer test, he was booked into Orleans Parish Prison on charges of drunk driving, speeding, careless operation of a motor vehicle, and not having his vehicle registration with him. He was then released at 7 a.m.

“You have the right to refuse the test, but it has consequences,” police spokesman Janssen Valencia said.

Maybe McCray wasn’t aware that a person suspected of driving drunk in Louisiana who refuses a breathalyzer automatically loses his license for a year.

Maybe he also was not aware that going 80 in a 60 at 4:30 a.m. no matter how hungry you are, is also illegal.

Of course, he tweeted more about the incident, saying the charges were “bogus” and that he was guilty of merely “driving with a pizza.” His Twitter account has since been deleted.

McCray, a seventh-round pick out of Florida in 2004, was signed to a five-year contract in March 2008 after four seasons with Jacksonville. He took over as the starting end during the last half of the season when Charles Grant was injured, responding with 37 tackles – the second-highest total of his career – and a club-high six sacks. Though he has played as a backup this season, he has still appeared in all 15 games with ten tackles and 1.5 sacks.

The 13-2 Saints, who have clinched the NFC South title along with a first-round bye thanks to the Bears, have earned home field advantage throughout the playoffs.
