Troy Murphy Cleveland Bound?

The NBA trade deadline is rapidly approaching and a lot of NBA teams are looking to wheel and deal before February 18th, including the first place Cleveland Cavaliers who believe they are still one piece of the puzzle away from being the best team in the NBA this season and a legitimate NBA title contender.

Obviously, even if the Cleveland Cavaliers don’t make a deal before the deadline they will be serious contenders of the NBA title at season’s end, but an addition of a player like the Washington Wizards Antawn Jamison, Philadelphia 76ers Andre Igoudala or the Indiana Pacers Troy Murphy will greatly improve their chances of becoming NBA champs for the first time in franchise history.

The one deal involving the Cleveland Cavaliers that has been getting a lot of talk lately has been a trade including forward Antawn Jamison, but the Washington Wizards keep saying there is no way the deal with the Cavs will go down which is making people believe that the two other trade options on the table for Cleveland are a stronger possibility.

Last week the Philadelphia 76ers basically said that no one is untouchable on their squad, including arguably their best player in shooting guard Andre Igoudala, but despite the Cavs’ interest in the talented guard, Cleveland seems to be leaning towards trading for a forward opposed to guard like Igoudala. Plus, Igoudala has a big portion of his contract left ($56 million for four years) that the Cavs would have to absorb that Cleveland might not be willing to take on.

Personally, the Cleveland Cavaliers would be much improved with the addition of Antawn Jamison playing alongside LeBron James and Shaq, but the with that seeming more and more unlikely, Cleveland could be looking at going after Troy Murphy instead.

The only thing holding the Cavs back from actually pulling the trigger on the trade that brings Murphy to Cleveland is the asking price which as of right now would be promising youngster J.J. Hickson and center Zydrunas Ilgauskas and a some draft picks.

Troy Murphy is a good role player which would help the Cleveland Cavaliers achieve their goal of being NBA champions, but losing J.J. Hickson in this instance is a deal breaker in my opinion. Z is on his way out anyway because he will almost certainly be involved in any trade the Cavs make before the deadline, but Hickson is perhaps the best young player they have on the team right now and would be a big loss.

There is still a little more than two weeks left before the Cavs have to make a deal, so anything can happen, but unless the Pacers change their demands, I don’t see Cleveland pulling the trigger on this trade.

Cavs are really just getting their act together with the amazing people they have. They are now kind of zone practicing how to stomp other teams. One night set record for 3 pointers, next game score 64 points in the paint against a team with four seven footers. They actually look much better with their first and second string point guards both out as they are now featuring working in an out of the post instead of the plodding pound the ball and wait for the high pick.

Who is a real threat, well, how good might Charlotte get? What team might make a trade at the deadline that makes them much better?

Who will come out of the west? Beat to hell Kobe and the Leakers, or more hard nosed Denver?

We haven’t even seen more than half of Cleveland’s upside with the players they have, so I hope Danny Ferry knows when to hold em.

If you heard LeBron being interviewed after the Clippers game with the 46 point first quarter, LBJ shook his head and said it is Mike Brown’s job to make sure every player gets the right playing time to all be ready. Do you think he means when you have Boobie Gibson ready and able to drop 9 in 2 minutes anytime in the fourth quarter, maybe you won’t need to have people separating their shoulders diving after balls going out of bounds to win on the last shot?

Hey, Danny Ferry, lets see the whole upside, we’re heading for at least 66-16 like last year when Mike Brown threw the last home game, which would mean if we do go 66-16 the other teams in the east can’t even lose another game to tie the Cavs.

    Go Cavs!!!!!!!!!!
