Top Ten NHL Teams Against the Spread
These ten teams have been cashing in against the spread for NHL bettors early on in the 2009-2010 season. Read up and throw down. (Record is against the spread / dollar amount is cumulative betting result based on $100 bet per game)
10. St Louis 4-2 +200
Just as they finished last season, the Blues have used their speed to generate chances and dollars for their bettors.
9. Dallas 5-3 +290
Despite a slew of injuries the Stars have been outperforming their Vegas expectations. Watch the injury reports – once Richards, Ott and Lehtinen return there will be some great value to capitalize upon.
8. San Jose 5-4 +291
Dany Heatley looks good in Sharks teal. He and Patrick Marleau have been powering the San Jose offense. Watch their lines closely over the next few games as they’re in the midst of a six-game road swing. Wouldn’t want to risk too much on the back-end of a tough trip.
7. Phoenix 5-2 +300
The Coyotes have surprised everyone with their positive response to the massive uncertainty that plagued the team for the duration of the off-season. Ilya Bryzgalov has been a stud for the Desert Dogs and as a result Phoenix has been paying out nicely to astute early-season bettors. Keep in mind, the Coyotes have come in at UNDER six out of seven times so far this season.
6. Pittsburgh 4-4 +309
The defending Cup champs have started right where the left off – skating hard, scoring a ton and filling the win column with ease. Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and Marc-Andre Fleury look better than ever and, barring a ridiculous line, I wouldn’t bet a cent against them.
5. Atlanta 4-1 +312
In one of the biggest surprises of the NHL season, the Atlanta Thrashers are playing quality hockey. Their high-flying offensive attack (4 goals per game) has garnered them wins against Eastern Conference stalwarts like Buffalo and New Jersey. Their defense ain’t too shabby either. Throw down on the Thrashers while the team and their lines remain hot.
4. Washington 5-3 +396
The Caps are cashing in against the line so far this season with the help of none other than Alexander Ovechkin. 16 points in eight games so far this season. Ridiculous. Imagine if he would’ve played in the 80s when the goalies played stand-up with skinny pads and a mere fake slapper had them sliding into the corner leaving a wide-open net. (at least 250 points)
3. Calgary 6-2 +650
While Calgary’s margin of victory is by far the slimmest of the top ten teams (0.12) they have been pumping goals past opposing tenders and filling the wallets of hockey gamblers. Also, the Flamers are OVER seven out of eight games this season.
2. Colorado 8-0 +800
As mentioned in my Free NHL Picks last week where I picked Colorado over Detroit at +177 (you’re welcome) the Avs are money. In our banks. We’ll see how long it takes Vegas to give them the respect they deserve, but for now, keep throwing down on Craig Anderson and the Avalanche.
1. New York Rangers 8-1 +1225
Blue Shirt bettors are making a KILLING this year. The Rangers are playing unbelievably well under the tutelage of giant spaz John Tortorella. They have a massive margin of victory (1.44) and have an outstanding mix of veteran talent and stars in the making. Ride the blue wave. Ride it. Yep. That’s the one.
