Tuesday, Tiger Woods faced the press in the United Kingdom for the first time since the whole sex scandal drama started last November.  Tiger nimbly shut down questions about his divorce, at one point using his children and human shields to deflect questions.

“All that really matters is I have two beautiful kids, and I’m trying to be the best dad I can possibly be, and that’s the most important thing of all,” Woods said while reading from a Mr. Rogers script.

Asked about his odd decision to fly to Ireland for a two-day pro-am then fly back to the United States only to return again to Scotland a few days later — all a week before the British Open — Woods would only say how incredibly awesome it was to spend a couple more days with 3-year-old daughter and 1-year-old son:

That was an incredible experience, to hang out with my kids. Normally I don’t come over here, play two days and then go back home. But the reason I did is obviously for my kids, and we had a great time.

That quick trip was “obviously” for his two kids — not for some crazy porn star sex, obviously.

And yet, Woods also said he was totally psyched about the British Open and there was no way his crazy personal life or missing his incredible kids would distract him in any way:

This is the Open Championship at St. Andrews. I mean, this is as good as it gets. It’s the home of golf. I’m just like every other player in this field, really looking forward to getting out there and playing the Open Championship.

All Woods would say when asked about his impending divorce was “I’m not going to go into that.”  But he did want to discuss/make an endorsement, that he was dumping his longtime putter — the Scotty Cameron Newport 2 — for a new Nike model called the Method.  Woods also recently began using a newer version of his Nike balls.
