Tiger Hits Three Fans, Rose Gets First PGA Win

With his first swing Sunday in the fourth round of the Memorial, Tiger Woods drilled a 37-year-old spectator in the neck with his drive.  Woods, the tournament’s defending champ, hit another fan on the very next hole, and then a third on the 15th.  Woods finished tied for 19th in the tournament, his worst ever finish at the Jack Nicklaus-hosted event.  Meanwhile at the top of the leader board, Justin Rose shot a 66 on Sunday to come back from four shots back to earn his first PGA Tour victory.  It was Rose’s 162nd PGA Tour event — in the Englishman’s first event as a 17-year-old amateur he had finished tied for 4th at the 1998 British Open.

Rose beat out 21-year-old rookie Rickie Fowler, who had to settle for tournament runner-up for the second time this year.  Thursday and Friday, Fowler had set the tournament record for low score through 36 holes despite wearing a hip-hop style flat-brimmed cap.

Woods has a habit of giving autographed golf gloves to fans who he hits with his balls.  After today’s round, Woods gabbed “I kept hitting everybody out there today. Thank God I get them [the gloves] for free.” The world’s top golfer does after all have a rather expensive divorce in the works which has largely gone underreported.

Phil Mickelson, who with a victory at The Memorial could have taken Tiger’s world #1 title, finished tied for 5th.
