Pick 1

ATLANTA +134 over San Jose

With the help of stud rookie, Evander Kane, the Thrashers have stunned the NHL so far this year by playing respectable hockey. Shocking, I know.  Despite having lost two in a row coming into this game, Atlanta battled hard with a tough Washington team and have been getting solid play from goaltender Ondrej Pavelec.

This will be the Sharks’ fifth game of a six game road trip that started last Thursday night. They should be sufficiently worn down and ripe for a bit of an upset. Also, if it means anything to you, the Thrashers are 7-1 in their last 8 games played on Saturday night.

Pick 2

New York Rangers -115 over MONTREAL

As mentioned in my NHL ATS article from earlier this week, the Rangers have been making bettors rich this season. They’re still the NHL’s best team against the spread and are +1125 (based on a $100 bet per game) on the season.

Montreal has been shaky early on in the campaign and have yet to find a remedy for their goaltending woes. Carey Price and Jaroslav Halak seem to be stuck in a “terrible goaltender” purgatory which, needless to say, is holding the Habs back, big time.

Note, the Under is 6-1 in the Rangers’ past seven road games.

Buffalo -117 over TAMPA BAY

Lindy Ruff’s Sabres have come out guns a-blazing this season and are off to a 5-1-1 start. Though this game looks to be quite evenly matched on paper, the fact that Buffalo will be coming into this game on two days’ rest (they’re 40-19 in their last 59) puts them over the top. Add to that the fact that the Lightning are inexplicably 16-35 in their last 51 Saturday night games and you’ve got a good-looking bet. Buffalo also has the edge between the pipes with Ryan Miller who has a microscopic 1.66 GAA and a .942 save percentage so far this season. Roll with the Sabres.
