NFL free agency begins at the stroke of midnight. Which means a lot of teams are at this very moment scrambling to finalize deals with big ticket players. Due to the impending uncapped year, the list of available free agents on the open market is scant. The dearth of quality talent means a handful of older vets will likely land lucrative deals. Some of these guys aren’t worth the hype. Here are ten overrated free agents teams should avoid.
10. WR Antonio Bryant – Just 28, Bryant is young enough to receive a long-term deal. When healthy and on his best behavior he can be a weapon. Those occasions are rare. Four teams in eight seasons spells problem child. Stay away.
9. RB Willie Parker – “Fast Willie” hit the 30-year-old wall a couple years early. His featured back days are long gone. He can’t stay healthy and is no better than a number two at this stage of his career.
8. WR Terrell Owens – TO is not a number one option any longer and his baggage isn’t worth the headache. Somebody will ink him to a one-year contract, but his skills are eroding.
7. LB Antonio Pierce – He’s old, slow and has a bum neck. His days of being a three-down defensive leader are over. He is a pretty strong choice for NFL football betting when it comes to props. Scott Fujita would be a better choice.
6. DE Kyle Vanden Bosch – At 31, Vanden Bosch has just 7.5 sacks the last two seasons. He’s effective if surrounded by elite players (like Albert Haynesworth), but he can’t get the job done on his own.
5. RB Brian Westbrook – A litany of knee and ankle troubles was compounded by a pair of severe concussions in 2009. Westy should retire, and may be forced to if he can’t pass a physical. Steer clear.
4. DE Aaron Kampman – He’s better suited playing end in a 4-3 and is still recovering from a knee injury suffered last November. Giving him a multi-year deal would be foolish. He probably won’t be 100% healthy until 2011, when he’s 31.
3. RB LaDainian Tomlinson – There’s a reason why the Chargers dumped him: he’s finished. LT had zero 100 yard games in ’09 and scored half of his twelve touchdowns in three games. He’s nothing more than a third down back.
2. RB Thomas Jones – Why would the Jets cut a 1400 yard rusher? He’ll be 32 in August and has logged 931 carries since 2007. Jones evaded hitting the running back wall the last couple years, but don’t expect him to do it again. The end in nigh.
1. CB Dunta Robinson – Dunta notched six interceptions as a rookie in 2004. He has seven picks since then. Toss in a history of knee problems and he constitutes a major risk. Someone will overpay for his services, but they’ll be wasting their money.

No Julius Peppers? He will get a boat load of money because he is immensely talented and capable of great things but has never been consistent. He will be a bust for whoever signs him.
LaDainian Tomlinson isn’t washed up. The Chargers went to a mostly pass offense. Did you think Darren Sproles became their RB? He played more games than LT and still got less than half the carries…that should tell you something about how much Norv Turner’s offense is different nowadays. Remember when LT had mad seasons, well he also had something called a fullback to lead black. He came off his injuries and was expected to pull his weight in a completely new offense, with no blocker, and less carries. Good luck with that.
I don’t think LT deserves to be on your list. Yes, hes not the same after his injuries and age, but I think he can still pull off multiple 1000yd seasons under the right offense.
I’m with C – Julius Peppers is highly over-rated. He’ll be good this season, then you won’t hear a damn thing about him until he’s in his next contract year.
Trust me, I’m from Carolina, Jules in only in it for the paycheck.
I just hope if the Titans let Vanden Bosch go that they have someone else up their sleeve. When he was injured, their pass rush was non-existent.
