We didn’t get many eyebrow-raising results in yesterday’s open, except for Baghdatis losing in five sets to veteran Clement. Looking at the other matches; Nadal had to play really well to beat Gabashvili 7-6 7-6 6-3 and Djokovic was taken to five sets against Troicki. James Blake was back in form to beat Vliegen in three straight sets and Fish and Verdasco both needed five sets to get through the always nervous opening match.
Let’s have a look at some of today’s exciting matches. Tennis betting odds are provided by Bodog, one of our partner sites and great site to bet on tennis and other sports.
Ryan Harrison vs Ivan Ljubicic. Interesting match-up with young vs “old”. The American teenager Ryan Harrison was very happy to get through to the main draw and will likely have very good support in his American fans. He is talented of course, but I doubt he is strong enough to win a five sets match against former top ten player Ljubicic. But who knows really? I wouldn’t want to write him off completely. If you believe in the young American you get 3.30 times your money.
Gilles Simon vs Donald Young. Here we have another talented American in Donald Young. Young was much talked about a few years ago, but when he didn’t really meet the high expectations that talk died down a little. He hasn’t really done anything on ATP level yet, but is doing well on the Challenger Circuit. Maybe this can be his chance for a breakthrough? Simon is far from the confidence he had in 2008 when he was beating Federer, Nadal and other top players by his tricky counter-attack tennis. Despite not being near that kind of form, he is in my view too good for Young, although I wish I am wrong. You get 3.75 times your money on Young and 1.25 on Simon.
Frederico Gil vs John Isner. I predicted Isner to be a dark horse for the title before, but his health issues have made me withdraw that idea. If he feels fit he can definitely shake up the field a bit though and he shouldn’t have any problems with Portugese clay court specialist Frederico Gil. Expect three easy sets.
Gael Monfils vs Igor Andreev. Probably the match of today and if this match doesn’t go the distance I would be very surprised. It is always fascinating to see Andreev’s loopy murder forehands and Monfils is going to have to run a lot to chase them down. Neither of the players will go far in this Open to my mind, but I think Andreev can be confident with his 4-1 H2H stat and win this match in four or five sets. You get a nice 2.80 times your money at Bodog.
Good luck with your bets!
