Taylor Hall: Too Good At Video Games?

On Tuesday in Toronto, EA Sports gathered 16 top NHL prospects to show off the new NHL 11 video game. The most exciting video game matchup featured the two top picks in the 2010 NHL Draft, Taylor Hall who went first to the Edmonton Oilers, and Tyler Seguin, who went second to the Boston Bruins. In their video game faceoff, Hall again got the better of Seguin.

Both players played as the video game versions of their new clubs, but without their video game selves in the lineups.  Hall got goals on his first two shifts, and coasted to a 5-1 video victory. The number one pick admitted that the victory was easy since he basically has no life. “The past couple of weeks, I’ve been playing the demo online,” Hall sheepishly confessed.

Seguin blamed his limited technical skills. “I’m still using classic controls, so that didn’t help me out,” said the number two pick.  Assuming they both can crack their team’s NHL rosters, their first real NHL battle will be on February 27 in Edmonton, the only time the Bruins and Oilers face each other in the regular season.

Hall made it all the way to the finals of the video game tournament before losing to video game champion Ryan McDonagh of the New York Rangers.  McDonagh was the 12th overall pick in the 2007 draft. Nazem Kadri, who the Toronto Maple Leafs took seventh overall in the 2009 draft, lost to McDonagh in the semifinals.
