In New York to promote the second season of his VH1 reality show, unsigned free agent wide receiver Terrell Owens said his future career aspirations include acting and interior design. Presumably, T.O. decided to do his reality show to get a head start on acting and to try to rehab his image, which he also wanted to do while talking to reporters in New York.
Feuding with teammates, suicide attempts — that’s all in the past. Instead, Owens wants you to ask, why doesn’t anyone celebrate the fact that he’s never gotten into trouble off the field?
Some of the golden boys that they kind of highlight throughout the course of the season, those are the guys that are getting in trouble. Somehow I get lumped into those topics, which blows my mind. I’ve never been in any trouble. I know right from wrong. I try to make the right choices and judgments when I’m out in the public.
Owens also insists he can still play at a high level despite being 36 — which is pretty ancient in NFL wide receiver years. After spending one year in Buffalo, Owens also blamed his lackluster stats last year (55 catches, 829 yards, 5 TDs) on Buffalo’s coaching staff and offensive line. If anything that shows how well-behaved he can be, because he was totally on his best behavior last year despite getting screwed by the ineptitude of others.
“I feel like I have enough talent to be a starter on any team,” Owens said. “That’s what’s so frustrating.”
Now he just hopes someone will get injured so he gets his chance:
Anything can happen from now to the beginning of the season. Injuries, anything, to where I may be brought in to help a team win. [I just hope it happens early enough so that I can] get some rhythm, some chemistry, learn the offense, and develop that camaraderie with the guys.
So please, when you think about T.O. think about developing camaraderie and that he’s never been arrested.
