More Superbowl betting props from Bodog to start the week before the big game. We’re going to cover all of the props dealing with ‘off field’ matters and then we’ll proceed to the prop bets on the game itself, followed by our side and total analysis. Most of our prop bets will be from Bodog so if you don’t have an account there go get one already!
The ‘Gatorade Shower’ of the winning coach has become a tradition in all sports at all levels, and the Superbowl is no exception. There’s some debate as to where this tradition started. Most consider the official beginning of the tradition to have begun with the 1986 New York Giants, who dunked head coach Bill Parcells after every victory including the Superbowl. Former Chicago Bears defensive tackle Dan Hampton claims that *he* invented the celebratory tradition when he dunked Mike Ditka after the team clinched the NFL Central title in 1984.
BoDog is offering a couple of prop bets on the ‘Gatorade Shower’ of the 2010 Superbowl winning coach:
What side of the ball will the Players that perform the Gatorade Shower be from?
OFFENSIVE +135
DEFENSIVE -165
The shower is usually performed by the defensive side of the ball for fairly obvious reasons–typically, at the end of the game the victory is considered certain when the team that leads in the game has possession and the defense can’t stop the clock. Since the offense is on the field when this happens, obviously the defensive players are the more likely perpetrators of the Gatorade Shower.
PLAY DEFENSIVE PLAYERS TO PERFORM THE GATORADE SHOWER -165
The other Bodog proposition bet concerns the color of the liquid that gets dumped over the winning coach:
What Color will the Gatorade be that is dumped on the Head Coach of the Winning Super Bowl Team?
Lime Green 11/2
Yellow 20/23
Orange 5/1
Red 25/2
Blue 12/1
Clear/Water 3/2
Typically, its the yellow Gatorade or clear water that gets dunked. Here’s my take on this–Gatorade is paying a lot of money to be an official Superbowl sponsor and will debut a new product line during the game. As a result–and since their brand name has become associated with the traditional celebration of the winning team–they’ll do everything they can to make sure that the ‘dunk’ is performed with their iconic yellow Gatorade. There’s simply no ‘product branding’ advantage to plain water. This was the case with the Pittsburgh Steelers victory last year, and with the investment that Gatorade is making in the game I’d expect it to happen again this year.
