Preview: On Sunday February 6th – Super Bowl XLV will take place featuring the winner of the NFC – Green Bay Packers against the winner of the AFC – Pittsburgh Steelers.
The Green Bay Packers are 3-1 in Super Bowl games in the history of their franchise. The Steelers most recently won in 2009, and overall have a 6-1 record, and a NFL most six Super Bowl titles. The city of Dallas has never hosted a Super Bowl game before. The last time the event took place in the state of Texas was in February of 2004 when the New England Patriots edged the Carolina Panthers, with Tom Brady being awarded the Super Bowl MVP.
In two meetings between the Packers and Steelers since 2001, the Steelers won both tilts. Pittsburgh, led by Ben Roethlisberger behind center put up 24 quick points in the AFC title game against the Jets. After scoring 24 unanswered Pittsburgh’s offense went silent. Despite that, the Steelers went on to down the Jets 24-19 to advance to Dallas. Before that, the Steelers trailed 21-7 at halftime to rival Baltimore, only to storm back and come away with the win. Pittsburgh finished the regular season with a 12-4 record. The Steelers defense has been what has carried them all season. Pittsburgh has allowed a league low 232 points. Teams were only able to rush for 62.8 yards per game during the regular season against the Steelers. On Sunday, the Jets behind LaDainian Tomlinson and Shonn Green were only able to garner 70.
Green Bay has used three impressive road wins to advance to the Super Bowl. After winning their first two games to advance to the postseason, the Packers beat Philadelphia, Atlanta and Chicago all in their own house. The Packers on Sunday led 14-0, only to need a stop in the final possession to seal the victory over the Bears. Green Bay has been led by the right arm of quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers threw for 3922 yards and 28 touchdowns during the regular season. His top target was Greg Jennings, who caught 76 passes for 1265 yards and 12 touchdowns. The Packers had the biggest point differential in the entire NFC; scoring 388 points and allowing 240.
Super Bowl XLV is coming right up. This game will be hyped up beyond belief, and rightfully so. These two teams are legitimate, and have the right to play in the biggest game of the National Football League season. Roethlisberger and the Steelers offense must make sure they take care of the football against a Packers defense that can cause turnovers. The Steelers defense is very good, and the best run defense in the game. Green Bay will have to run the football to help compliment Aaron Rodgers and his ability to throw the ball. This should be an excellent game that should keep fans on the edge of their seat all game long.
We like the Pittsburgh Steelers to cover the +2.5 spread and pull the slight upset and win their 7th Super Bowl. Steelers 28-24.
