The New Orleans Saints have little competition as the NFL’s most disappointing team after the first month of the season. The Saints are one of only two teams in the entire league to go winless through their first four games, and they face a tough task in getting their first win this week as they host the first place San Diego Chargers on Sunday Night Football.

OVER/UNDER: 54

The Saints managed to cover for the first time all season last week, losing by a single point as seven-point road underdogs in Green Bay. The Saints were eight-point favorites in both of their two previous home games this season, they lost 40-32 to the Washington Redskins in Week 1 and then 27-24 in overtime to the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 3. the Chargers beat the Chiefs in KC last week, winning by 17 as two-point road favorites.  That improved San Diego to 3-1 overall and 3-1 against the spread for the season, including 2-0 straight up and 2-0 ATS on the road.

The Saints and Chargers last met in October 2008, with the Saints winning 37-32 as three-point home underdogs.  That game easily went Over.

This season, three of four Saints games have went Over, with the only exception the home overtime loss to the Chiefs.  Chargers games have evenly split between Over and Under this season, though last week’s win in Kansas City was the first time a San Diego game went Over 54 points.

If I was a gambling man, I’d take the Saints to cover, and the Over.
