Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Rogers is coming up on Saturday, November 7th and Sports Untapped has free picks for our readers. We were 4/5 for our UFC 104 picks, so let’s see if we can nail them all for this huge event.
Fabricio Werdum (-165) vs. Antonio Silva (+140)
Antonio “Big Foot” Silva is 13-1 and riding a 6-fight win streak. Fabricio “Vai Cavalo” Werdum is 12-4-1 and lost to Junior Dos Santos at UFC 90 before beating Mike Kyle at Strikeforce: Cyborg vs. Carano. Werdum is the favorite, and with good reason. He is a veteran of both the UFC and Pride, and has some big wins on his record. He has beaten Brandon Vera, Alistair Overeem and Gabriel Gonzaga, and has battled some top-level fighters like Minotauro, Arlovski and Sergei Kharitonov. Silva ran through the Elite XC heavyweights, but Werdum will be the toughest opponent of his career. Take Werdum -165
Gegard Mousasi (-435) vs. Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou (+355)
Gegard Mousasi is 26-2 and has won 13 straight fights. His complete domination of Babalu Sobral had the MMA world buzzing about him. Sokoudjou is a physical specimen with amazing athleticism, but he has lost 3 of his last 6 fights and seems more of a gatekeeper or mid-level fighter. Mousasi can sub you or knock you out. The only question in this bout is which one will he use to beat Sokoudjou. Take Mousasi -435
Jason Miller (+235) vs. Jake Shields (-290)
This fight features 2 highly-skilled veterans of the ground game. Jake Shields is the Strikeforce middleweight champion after his amazing submission of Robbie Lawler at Strikeforce: Lawler vs. Shields in June. The Cesar Gracie Jiu-Jitsu submission specialist hasn’t lost since 2004, a total of 12 straight wins. Jason “Mayhem” Miller is always entertaining and while he plays the clown some, he is also a submission specialist. He took GSP to a decision at UFC 52 and like Shields he has also submitted Lawler. Shields is a top-level fighter and Miller hasn’t faced one since his GSP fight. Jake Shields has never been submitted in MMA and that is Miller’s only chance. Not going to happen. Take Shields -290
Fedor Emelianenko (-550) vs. Brett Rogers (+350)
Look, Brett Rogers is a wonderful and impressive story. He has rolled through everyone in front of him. But save for Arlovski, none of the guys he has fought were big challengers. When it comes to beating Fedor, Rogers has a puncher’s chance – and that’s it. If Rogers knocks out Fedor it will the biggest upset in MMA since Matt Serra beat GSP. And it will be the biggest upset ever. But as soon as this fight goes to the ground it ends shortly after. My guess is Fedor by armbar in the first round. Take Fedor -550
I’m taking all the favorites on this card. I just can’t foresee any upsets in these matches.
