All eyes have been on Manchester United this week due to the Wayne Rooney saga. Unfortunately fans won’t have a chance to see how he reacts to his new contract and to them, as he’ll be missing the game at Stoke on Oct. 24 due to an ankle injury.

United sit tied for fifth place in the English Premier League with Arsenal at 14 points after eight games. League leaders Chelsea have 22 points after nine games after beating Wolves 2-0 at Stamford Bridge on Oct. 23.

While fifth place is very un-United like, being the only unbeaten team in the league isn’t. The team’s problem so far this season has been throwing away leads and drawing games they probably should have won. They have three wins and five draws, a loss of 10 points from eight games.

Stoke is 12th in the league with 10 points from eight games and have been pretty mediocre as usual. They’ll be without Dean Whitehead as he’s suspended, but the midfield trio of Rory Delap, Jermaine Pennant and Matthew Etherington have been playing well and could put some pressure on United’s Patrice Evra and Rafael.  Striker Ricardo Fuller has a shoulder injury and may miss the match so Jonathan Walters and Kenwyne Jones should see action.

United hasn’t looked too impressive all season and add a 1-0 win over Bursaspor in the Champions League on Wednesday to that.  Nani has been playing well lately, but keeper Edwin van der Sar has looked shaky, so has Namanja Vidic, Rio Ferdinand, and Evra. Michael Owen may miss the game with injury and it won’t surprise anybody to hear Owen Hargreaves is out with injury.

Stoke has a terrible record against United and hasn’t managed a goal against them in their last four meetings. If they’re ever going to break the slump, this seems to be the time to do it.

The home fans want to see Stoke go at United in an attempt for all three points. They have won three lost one and drawn one of their last five games. United has won three and drawn two.

Stoke City vs Manchester United Betting Odds and Prediction

United are scoring enough goals to win games, but are letting too many in to rob them of points. With the club being so unsteady in their own end, now is the time to attack them. If Stoke sits back, they’re inviting trouble, but if they take the initiative they could be rewarded with a one-goal victory or a draw. It’ll be interesting to see how United reacts to the soap opera this week and they’ll other put it all together with a strong performance or continue to struggle. I see this as a 2-1 win for Manchester.

Sportsbook William Hill has the odds of a Man United win posted at 8/11while a Stoke victory is 4/1 and the odds of a draw are 5/2. The odds of 2-1 United win are 15/2.
