UFC 112 aired live at 1 P.M. Eastern Time and will air again on replay tonight at 10 P.M. Eastern Time as well.
The event took place at the Concert Arena on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi which featured a championship doubleheader. UFC 112, left us with a new championship and one of the most bizarre performances from a world champion in recent history.
Frankie “The Answer” Edgar did just that, he was the answer to BJ Penn’s dominance in the lightweight division. Edgar dethroned Penn with swift footwork, quickness, and became the only man in years to put Penn on his back with takedowns at 155lbs.
The judges scored the action (50-45, 48-47, 49-46) in favor of Edgar. While the score of 50-45 for Edgar is a bit puzzling the judges otherwise got the decision correct.
In the Main Event of the Night, UFC middleweight champion Anderson “The Spider” Silva dominated challenger Demian Maia to retain his 185lb. title.
However, after dominating the first two rounds of action the mixed martial arts world saw Silva dancing and acting rather bizarre for the final three frames.
During rounds 3-5, the crowd could be heard chanting “Maia, Maia!” and “GSP, GSP, GSP, GSP!” referring to welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre who was sitting cageside. Prior to his middleweight defense, Silva stated that he’d like to make the move to welterweight and challenge St. Pierre.
In addition, it was said that UFC President Dana White could be heard expressing his dislike with the antics of Silva and that White was speaking rather intensely with Silva’s manager Ed Soares during the latter rounds of the fight.
The post-fight press conference will be available tonight on www.ufc.com for White’s thoughts on the bizarre main event performance by Silva.
To round this all out, I have a distinct feeling that Silva will be fighting the toughest fight that White can find him regardless of weight class. Let this not take away from the stunning upset and spectacular performance by the new 155lb. champion Frankie Edgar.

Props to Frankie Edgar, who is about as likable of a guy as you’ll find anywhere. ‘The Spider’ is fortunate that the event was held in a Muslim country as in the US he would have heard ‘Silva sucks!’ cheers instead of ‘GSP’.
