The English Premier League season is winding down, and we’ll look at a soccer betting opportunity in Wednesday action as Manchester City hosts Tottenham Hotspur.  Manchester City is in 5th, 1 point behind 4th place Tottenham Hotspur.  The difference between 4th and 5th is significant, as the 4th place team gets into Champions League qualifying play while 5th place has to be content with a bid to the Europa League.  This game goes at 3 PM Eastern/12 noon Pacific from the City of Manchester Stadium.

We’re getting a reasonable price on one of the best Manchester City teams in years.  City has been very strong at home this year with 12 wins and 4 draws against only 2 losses.  The reason the price is so reasonable?  Tottenham Hotspur has dominated Manchester City in head to head play in recent years, and are currently on a 10-1-1 run overall including 4-2 on this field.  This isn’t the garden variety Manchester City team, however, so we’re of the opinion that the run of domination by the visitor serves more as motivation for the home team.

Tottenham Hotspur hasn’t exactly torn it up on the road this season, with 6 wins, 6 losses and 5 draws.  Most significantly, the Spurs have struggled on the road against the top teams while Manchester City has done well at home against the English Premier League leaders.  Manchester City is 3-1-1 at home against the rest of the EPL’s top 6 (Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool and Aston Villa), while Tottenham Hotspur is 0-4-1 against the same teams.  They drew 1-1 at Aston Villa, but the other 4 games were multiple goal losses.
