Chris Simms is returning as a backup quarterback for the Tennessee Titans, but he’ll always be known as the son of mediocre Giants quarterback turned awful announcer Phil Simms.  More interesting than anything Chris has done since breaking into the NFL in 2004, was his arrest last week for operating a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs — with his 8-month pregnant wife in the car.

Chris was pulled over at a DWI checkpoint on W. Houston St. at 1:30 a.m. police told the NY Daily News.  According to sources, the 29-year-old benchwarmer had been weaving through traffic, and when pulled over he was red-eyed and red-faced, reeked of marijuana and was slurring his speech.

“He was so stoned he couldn’t keep his mouth shut, and admitted he smoked a joint in the car,” said the Daily News source. “The smell of pot just came off his clothes and out of his car.”

Simms later derided the case against him as “very weak.” His attorney Nathan Semmel said cops misunderstood his client  who he says only “admitted to smoking cigarettes that night.”
