This season has been nothing short of a nightmare for the New Orleans Hornets as nothing seems to be going their way.
A few seasons ago the New Orleans Hornets were one of the most promising young teams in the NBA with an All-Star point guard in Chris Paul who was getting a lot of recognition as the best point guard in the league, but last season, the Hornets really struggled to get back to form and as a result were knocked out in the first round of the playoffs in five games by the Denver Nuggets.
Not only was the loss the Denver Nuggets in the first round in the playoffs a huge disappointment, but it seemed to carry over to this season as they started out this season with eight losses in the first 11 games.
As a result of the eight losses early in the season, the New Orleans Hornets decided to move on without former coach of the year Byron Scott by letting him go. This was a pretty big surprise and shocked many people around the league, but despite many people questioning the move, Chris Paul and company had to continue on without their leader on the sidelines and try and salvage the season.
Fortunately, the Hornets played pretty well after the Byron Scott firing, but then they got more bad news when Chris Paul went down with an injury that would keep him out eight games.
Even though not having their points and assists leader on the floor seemed to be devastating for a team already trying to catch up, the Hornets were able to break even without Chris Paul by winning four out of the eight games the All-Star point guard was on the bench.
Once Paul came back healthy, the Hornets were able to get somewhat back to form and stay in the playoff hunt, even winning six straight games at one point, but near the end of January New Orleans suffered another huge blow by losing Chris Paul to injury once again as he required knee surgery that was thought to keep him out the rest of the regular season.
As of right now, there is no timetable set for Chris Paul’s return, but it looks like it could be soon. The problem is that the New Orleans Hornets don’t really have much of a chance to make it to the postseason as they are sitting behind the Memphis Grizzlies and the Houston Rockets in the Western Conference and neither one of those teams have much of a chance of knocking the Portland Trail Blazers out of the eighth spot.
Personally, I believe Chris Paul should shut it down for the season and let that knee heal 100% instead of coming back and risking another injury while the New Orleans Hornets have little to no chance of making the playoffs.
